Introduction
After years of wait, the UK government announced a new work visa for international students called ‘Graduate Route’ formerly called Post Study visa is back. Anyone in UK on Student Visa (replaced Tier 4 General visa) who complete their degrees can make an application to live and work in UK for 2 years. They can work in UK or look for work without any restrictions on the level of work. Within the two years visa, a switching application can be made to switch to Skilled Worker Visa or other allowed visa routes such as Health and Care Visa, Partner Visa. On successfully switching, they can settle in the United Kingdom permanently after spending 5 years and naturalise as a British National after 12 months of getting Permanent Residence (also called Indefinite Leave to Remain).
Eligibility
Students who get enrol from September 2020 into a UK university and complete their degree will be eligible to apply for this visa. In other words, university students completing their degrees in Summer 2021 will be eligible to apply for Graduate Route- Post study work visa for UK Students. The degree must be completed at a UK Higher Education provider with a track record of compliance to stay in the UK for two years (three years for PhD graduates).
